Readiatrics Book Drive

Books for children grow their minds. Just reading one book to a child every night will stimulate their imagination and expand their understanding of the world; developing their language and listening skills. Sadly, many children do not have books at home and miss out on a vital part of their development.

Readiatrics' mission is  to slowly help build a child’s personal library and nurture the love of reading in our youth.

"When it comes to early childhood education, I have been raising books for children with my Readiatrics book drive for the past 20 years. The annually raised 5,000+ books are usually distributed through the South Dakota Department of Health in Rapid City. Last week, when my grandson Jax and I were visiting Storybook Island, we noticed their lending library shelves were bare. We came home and got some books to fill it. Two days later they were all gone. I started filling them again. This is how I have walked the walk for over 20 years to get books into the homes of children."

Our work is possible only with the support of our generous sponsors and donors. South Dakota Arts Council support is provided with funds from the State of South Dakota through the Legislature and Department of Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts. Infrastructure is partially funded by the Rapid City Arts Council, in partnership with the City of Rapid City.
